BEGAN IN : 1962

Don Bosco Technical Centre – Negombo was established in 1963, the Institute is a charitable organization with focus to transform the youth to be spiritual, skilled, honest, disciplined and self reliant. The institute’s work of charity is towards the young, especially the poor, and for the education of youth.

The Institute transcends Race, Religion, Class and other Barriers, it is an Institute that provides humanitarian and spiritual assistance to the Orphans , Victims of war, Abandoned and the Run- a ways, Victims of social evils – Child Labour, Street kids, School drop-outs, Homeless, Destitute and the Differently able. The Institute, apart from the vocational training it imparts, it conducts a Drop in Centre, an Orphanage and Remedial Classes for young children to prevent them being enticed into social evils. It teaches skills in Handicrafts and Dancing. It provides a Hostel for the underprivileged youth.

Foot ball, Basket ball and Volley ball training are some of the extra curricular activities provided.

Vision :

The Don Bosco Centre is a Home that fosters a sense of belonging, a School that imparts an all-round (education) formation, a Church that gives meaning to life, and a Playground where life is celebrated.

With the lay collaborators, with Mary as our model, our aim is to build a faith and spirit-filled community of youngsters who will radiate the gifts of the risen Lord, peace, joy, and love to the world around.We are a volunteer organisation dedicated to the technical and vocational education of the poor and down-trodden young men and children.

Scope :

  • To impart total and integral development of youth is the main goal. God centered man and an honest citizen
  • To provide employment to youth through well- planned Technical training programmes
  • groom vocations for ecclesiastical and Salesian life.
  • To promote catechesis and evangelization in a systematic way through Daham Pasal.
  • To spread Marian devotion.
  • To provide Tuition and remedial classes for poor children.
  • To house abandoned, marginalized and abused children ( Boarding and lodging for academic and vocational formation and education.)

The society of St. Francis de Sales or Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), is a religious Congregation founded by St. John Bosco in 1859 in Turin, Italy for the purpose of helping, educating and training poor boys. To date, services of the Salesians have spread to 131 countries in the world. In Sri Lanka, the very first Don Bosco Centre was established in 1956 at Negombo. The Salesians of Don Bosco have, to date established 18 centres in different parts of the country.
