DON BOSCO INSTITUTE, NARAMMALA (Metiyagane) is a private educational institute that offers higher vocational education for the youth. It is internationally recognized and sponsored by the Salesians of Don Bosco, which is a Catholic Religious Congregation spread in 133 nations. “Don Bosco Sri Lanka” is an Approved-Charitable NGO in Sri Lanka, which is also known as “Don Bosco Trust” (T.D.No.9472-2011.11.14), a non-profitable service in front of the Government of Sri Lanka (The Gazette No.1,541-2008.03.14), since 1956.


Out of 18 Don Bosco Institutions scattered all over the Island, who offer high demanded vocational training courses for the poor and marginalized youth, Don Bosco Institute Narammala (Metiyagane) in Kurunegala District, is very much equipped with modern technology in various trades of higher education. The Centre was ceremonially inaugurated on 5 June 2010, and the course inauguration took place in 2011.


Since 2015, it is an ISO 9001:2015 certified and QMS implemented institute. It is a TVEC (Territory and Vocational Education Commission – P 12/0145) registered institution offering NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) Level 3, Level 4, Level 5 and Level 6, (Higher National Diploma) and International Vocational Qualification Certificates for various Courses.

SCOPE

 

  • Pastoral and Social Centre for young people to rediscover self-worth and mature into Christian adulthood.
  • Learning to be useful citizens through technical formation and employment.
  • To provide boarding and lodging facilities to impart an all-around formation.
  • To attract and motivate youth to join the Salesian Congregation by becoming a priest or a lay brother.
  • To form a strong past pupils unit that would reinforce the Salesian Family.
  • To influence the non-Christian youth with the spirit of Don Bosco to become active members of Salesian collaborators.
  • To build up an army of youth for youth leaders.

The society of St. Francis de Sales or Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), is a religious Congregation founded by St. John Bosco in 1859 in Turin, Italy for the purpose of helping, educating and training poor boys. To date, services of the Salesians have spread to 131 countries in the world. In Sri Lanka, the very first Don Bosco Centre was established in 1956 at Negombo. The Salesians of Don Bosco have, to date established 18 centres in different parts of the country.
