Sri Lanka – Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA) Assembly

The Don Bosco Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA) Assembly was held from 1 to 3 September 2023 at Don Bosco Provincial House Dungalpitiya, Sri Lanka. The assembly was convoked under the leadership of the SPCSA President Father Biju Michael, South Asia Regional Councillor, who was unable to participate physically due to some issues with regard to travelling documents. Present were all the 12 provincials of South Asia Region together with Fr Jose Mathew, Outgoing SPCSA Secretary, Fr John Parankimalil, the new SPCSA Secretary and Fr Vincent Kunnathettu, the Personal Secretary to the Regional Superior, South Asia. 

The specialty of this SPCSA assembly was the presences of Fr Andrea Bozzolo, Rector Magnificus, UPS, Rome and Fr Jarosław Rochowiak, Secretary General of UPS, on the first day and the last day of the assembly to share the life of the UPS in relation to the South Asia Region.

The assembly started on day 1 with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr Andrea Bozzolo. Afterwards came the Opening Address by Fr Biju Michael, Regional, South Asia & President, SPCSA Council. There was a moment of Gratitude and appreciation to Fr Jose Mathew, Outgoing SPCSA Secretary by Provincial of INB and Welcome to Fr John Parankimalil, the new SPCSA Secretary by the Provincial of INN.

Fr Andrea Bozzolo and Fr Jarosław Rochowiak addressed the SPCSA Assembly after which the assembly focused on the steps to be taken to implement proposals from the Rector Major after the Team Visit. Then the assembly moved to the other assembly proceedings which were planned for the following days.

The Assembly also considered suggestions regarding various aspects of the life of south Asia region that rose up during the assembly. The assembly concluded with the lunch on 3 September.
